Noonchi
About This Spot
Step into Noonchi, a quietly spirited spot tucked away along South Joyce Street in Arlington. The moment you cross the threshold, there’s an immediate sense of ease, as if you've stumbled upon a cherished hideaway. This is not just a place to eat, but a cozy nook where the pace slows, conversations deepen, and evenings naturally unfold around a shared table.
The atmosphere balances warmth with a touch of playfulness—rich, inviting hues and intimate lighting set a stage that feels like a well-kept secret among friends. In one corner, mahjong tiles clatter gently, sparking laughter and camaraderie, while the soft hum of chatter and clinking glasses fills the air. It’s a space that welcomes quiet reflection as much as lively gatherings, a meeting ground that invites connection beyond just the food.
Here, the culinary experience intertwines Chinese and Korean influences with a contemporary sensibility. Plates arrive with thoughtful touches—crispy pork belly and delicate shumai, or a comforting bowl of mapo tofu that carries a subtle heat. Dim sum is more than a meal; it’s a communal experience, paired effortlessly with cocktails that marry Asian-inspired ingredients and classic techniques, creating sips as memorable as the dishes.
Noonchi’s charm is found in its human moments—the shared smiles over a plate of freshly fried chicken wings, the quick lessons in mahjong that spark both curiosity and friendly competition, and the quiet nods exchanged across candlelight. It’s a place where locals linger, drawn by the thoughtful details and the sense of belonging that feels both rare and genuine.

Been here twice for the beginner's mahjong lesson with Mr. Tim Ma Sr. and it's been a fun time. I love the drinks here (they do have happy hour) and the atmosphere is really nice for a girl's night out or a date night. I'm proud to support a local AAPI-owned business. Food is presented really well, but could be better for the price.

What is a speakeasy? After dining at The Sparrow Room, I had a much better idea. I was thoroughly impressed from the moment I stepped inside, to my last bite of the tasty dimsum. The space has a cool, saloon type feel, with warm colors. The Mahjong tables gives off a fun, creative vibe (I am slowly learning the game and it made me want to watch Crazy Rich Asians again). The stars of the show: flavorful/ intricate cocktails and delicious food options! We tried almost everything on the menu and it was all great. My favorite cocktail was the Sparrow Sour. I enjoyed how it was finished with frozen melon balls. Food wise, you can’t go wrong with any of the Dimsum options. Hao Gao is one of my favorite dimsums, and it’s solid here. Mapu Tofu had great flavor, and if you like fish, definitely try the Salt Fish Eggplant. A very satisfying night to say the least. I will be coming back soon and best of luck Sparrow Room! I recommend giving this place a visit.

Love this place! Quaint little speak easy where you can play mahjong. Cocktails are good & so are the dum sum options I tried. Definitely a great option for a date night or 4 friends. (You need 4 people to play so if you don’t reserve for 4, they’ll pair you with 2 other guests).

This is a wonderful speakeasy, where you can get delicious dim sum, play mahjong with three of your friends, and socialize over some wonderful craft cocktails that have some Asian inspired flavors. All the staff are wonderful and are willing to help out anyway they can. We were overall fresh players to the game but they were willing to offer quick tips and refreshers to make it the best experience possible. Definitely will be going back soon !

Located inside the bun restaurant. They have limited seating, so it's better to make a reservation. I failed twice and finally had a seat this time:) It was a weekday evening. The cocktails were really goooood! I had a combination of tea and booze like this before and it reminded me of my hometown. :) Although it's a Chinese Bistro, the rice didn't cook well :( it was dry and felt like sitting there for a long time. Meat was fine! And the scallion pancakes were too soft for me. Will come again for the cocktails
